Football Battles Tough Against National Powerhouse DuPage
DETROIT -- Community Christian College Football put together an explosive offensive performance on Saturday afternoon, racking up 504 total yards, but ultimately fell 51–31 to the visiting College of DuPage at Renaissance HS in Detroit.
Quarterback Carson Thornton showed his ability to lead the Lions' high-powered attack, throwing for 426 yards and five touchdowns. Despite facing heavy pressure and a strong DuPage secondary, Thornton kept Community Christian in striking distance.
His favorite target was Adrian Barnes, who turned in a monster performance with 236 receiving yards and two touchdowns on just six catches. Barnes consistently stretched the field and delivered highlight-reel plays that energized the home crowd. Rashawn Williams was equally reliable, hauling in 10 receptions for 144 yards and a touchdown, while Tyler Tarantino and Corey Minous each added touchdown grabs of their own.
On the ground, Thornton also led the way with 50 rushing yards, showing his dual-threat ability.
Defensively, the Lions forced key takeaways to slow down a potent DuPage offense. Curtis Perry and Jalil Burnside each snagged interceptions, while Antonio Jones also forced a fumble to create an extra possession.
The game remained competitive into the third quarter, when Community Christian scored 12 points to cut into the deficit before DuPage pulled away late.
While the result didn't go their way, the Lions proved they can move the ball against one of the top junior college programs in the country. Missed opportunities kept them from scoring on red-zone drives, as well as special teams allowing a safety and a long kickoff return that helped DuPage create momentum.
Community Christian returns to action next weekend at home against #13 Lackawanna College, kickoff is set for 1pm.
