Lions Fall at Genesee

Batavia, N.Y. — January 10, 2026

Community Christian College Men's Basketball kept pace offensively but couldn't overcome rebounding struggles and free-throw woes in an 80–64 road loss to Genesee Community College on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions trailed 39–26 at the break before playing Genesee nearly even in the second half (41–38). However, a decisive edge on the glass and at the foul line allowed the hosts to maintain control throughout.

Trey West and Kajuan Kearney led the way for Community Christian, each scoring 21 points. West added seven rebounds and knocked down five free throws, while Kearney was efficient inside and out, shooting 8-of-14 from the floor and 2-of-3 from beyond the arc.

Gabriel Buttram contributed across the stat sheet with seven points, six rebounds, three assists, and a team-high four steals, while Teyshaun Hicks provided a spark off the bench with seven points, five steals, and three rebounds.

Genesee's advantage came primarily on the boards, where it out-rebounded the Lions 61–35, including 14 offensive rebounds. The Cougars also capitalized at the free-throw line, converting 22-of-29, compared to DC3's 8-of-18.

Despite forcing 22 Genesee turnovers and holding the Cougars to just 11.8% shooting from three-point range, Community Christian struggled to find consistent offensive rhythm, finishing at 32.5% from the field.

The Lions move to 7–13 on the season and will look to regroup as they continue play at Edison State on Tuesday night, tip-off is set for 7:30pm.
