Football Earns Road Win at Hocking College

Nelsonville, OH – Community Christian Football picked up its second victory of the season Saturday afternoon, defeating Hocking College 27–13 behind a balanced offensive attack and an opportunistic defense.

The Lions struck first midway through the opening quarter when Trey West powered in from two yards out for the game's first touchdown. Hocking responded with a short run of its own to even things at 6–6, but from there, Community Christian seized control.

Quarterback Carson Thornton found the end zone on a one-yard keeper early in the second quarter, then delivered the game's biggest play on the half's final snap — a 43-yard touchdown strike to West that sent the Lions into the locker room with a 20–6 lead.

Thornton extended the advantage in the third, connecting with Tristen Kellam on a four-yard score. That touchdown capped an 11-for-25 passing day for 139 yards and two touchdowns through the air, plus a rushing score. West proved to be his top target, hauling in three receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown while also adding 17 rushing yards and 80 kickoff return yards.

On the ground, Mateo Ledesma paced the Lions with 65 rushing yards on 16 carries, part of a 129-yard team effort.

Defensively, Community Christian was relentless, recording four sacks and two interceptions to keep Hocking's offense off balance. Cortez Scott had a sack and forced fumble, Malachi Clark added two sacks, and Danero Harris and Jalil Burnside each grabbed interceptions.

With the win, Community Christian improves to 2–2 on the season. The Lions will look to build on the momentum next weekend as they continue their road stretch at Grand Valley State University, playing their JV squad on Sunday, September 28th, at 6 pm.
