Community Christian Falls to National Power Lackawanna

DETROIT, Mich. – Community Christian Football ran into one of the toughest tests of its young program on Saturday afternoon, falling 83-0 to Lackawanna College at Renaissance High School. The loss dropped the Lions to 1-2 on the season.

Despite the final score, Community Christian showed grit against a Lackawanna squad that is consistently ranked among the top junior college programs in the nation. The Lions' defense was under pressure from the opening drive, but players like Decari Gilkey (team-high 4 tackles) and Amaree Baker battled throughout to slow the Falcons' balanced attack. William Burns, McCoy Williams, and Curtis Perry each registered tackles for loss, showing flashes of disruption against Lackawanna's offensive front.

On offense, quarterback Carson Thornton connected on 13 passes for 128 yards, spreading the ball to six different receivers. Rashawn Williams led the way with five catches for 55 yards, while Mateo Ledesma and Myron Mayberry added key receptions that helped move the chains. The Lions managed seven first downs, but turnovers and negative rushing yardage made sustained drives difficult against a relentless Lackawanna defense.

In the return game, Caleb Moore provided a spark with 27 yards on kickoff returns, while Lorenzo Garcia chipped in 13 more.

This matchup serves as a learning lesson for the program in its second season in the NJCAA.

The Lions will look to regroup and bounce back next week as they continue building a foundation in Detroit. They will face Hocking College in Nelsonville, OH on September 20th, immediately following the CCC Broncos game against Hocking's JV team at noon.
